The concept of a Tree of Life represents the interconnection of all life. Hebrew Scripture is the origin for the Tree of Life, whose fruit gives everlasting life. As a consequence of Adam and Eve’s self-conceit—the exaggerated placing of one’s own opinion over God’s—they were prevented access to the Tree of Life. The story of the Tree of Life continues through Jesus Christ: “The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations” (Rev.22). “The cross [of Christ] is the true tree of life” (Pope Benedict XVI). This symbolism and prophecy come full circle from creation, evolution, Christ, and the future healing of all nations. In essence, the Tree of Life is the mysterious love of God. This is our radical journey to taste the fruit.
